Football is a dangerous sport that is most often played by predominantly young men. Because of this, it is rare that an active player from a football team passes away. Couple that with the fact that most people don’t associate death with people in good physical condition, and it is no wonder that most people don’t think it will happen. It has happened from time to time over the years though and is usually a very notable and sad occasion when it does.
The National Football League dates back to the early 1920’s and over the years a number of active players have tragically lost their lives. The Arena Football League is a more modern football league though that does not possess the lengthy history that the NFL does. Even so, in their history, three players have died during their playing careers in the Arena Football League.
